Mathematics, Chemistry, Process Management
The kitchen provides endless opportunities to explore mathematical and scientific principles through hands-on experimentation. Students who enjoy cooking can apply concepts through recipes—calculating ratios, scaling portions, observing chemical reactions like caramelization and emulsification. Students who prefer not to cook can explore the same principles through alternative projects: slime-making teaches polymer chemistry, homemade play dough demonstrates ratio relationships, bath bombs reveal acid-base reactions, and candy experiments show crystallization and temperature science.
Mathematics emerges through measurement, ratio work, scaling calculations, and cost analysis. Chemistry comes alive through observable transformations: Why do some mixtures thicken? What happens when acids meet bases? How do temperature changes affect materials?
Process management skills transfer far beyond any single project. Students learn to read complex instructions before beginning, identify which steps must happen sequentially and which can run in parallel, manage timing, and adjust plans when reality diverges from expectations.
Each student chooses projects that fit their household and interests while building the same foundational skills.
