Knowing how to sew is more than simple garment repair. This introductory class begins with the foundational craft that underlies all textile arts. We start with the basics of sewing and prepare you to sew what you want, tailored to your build and style.

Color theory emerges naturally through fabric selection. You will learn to see the relationships between hues, values, and saturation—not as abstract concepts, but as practical decisions that determine whether a finished piece looks intentional or accidental.

Design theory grounds every project: Why does this silhouette work? What makes a proportion pleasing? How do constraints (budget, available materials, skill level) shape creative solutions?

This introductory class equips you with a working vocabulary for navigating the basics of garment repair, upcycling, and tailoring. Once you have completed you can move on to the advanced monthly class where we dive into so much more.
